Trends come and go, but I’m hoping the Food Truck Fad never dies! I consider them culinary geniuses on wheels. The food truck phenomenon has taken Philadelphia and the world by storm! With festivals dedicated to these delicious vehicles, it is easy to find the food truck that can cater your wedding needs.
8 Reasons to Love Food Truck Weddings
My favorite reason would definitely be that you are supporting a small and local business. The entrepreneurs behind the food truck are artists that are more than likely working day and night to provide our community with a delicious and sometimes healthier alternative to fast food!
Special, unique and fresh food! Like snowflakes, no two food trucks are the same! Even though there are probably 1000’s of food trucks that fire up brick oven pizzas, they all have their own flare and specialties! Their food is incredibly fresh since they deal in small batches!
Late night food to go at your wedding is a great pick me up! Have a food truck for the guests at the end of the night to grab a philly pretzel, cheesesteak, or maybe some ice cream! You’re guests will be very happy to have something to sustain them on the trip home or intoxicated in their hotel room!
Showcase local cuisines. As mentioned in number 3, local cuisines are always a fan favorite. Some Philly faves include roast pork sandwich, hoagies, cannoli’s, soft pretzels, philly cheesesteaks, water ice, or gelato! Maybe the couple hails from a different background and would like to find a food truck that takes them back to their childhood -- the options are honestly endless and you can find something that tastes like home!
So many options! Buffet, served, window service. Most food trucks are able to cater and bring things to set up a buffet. Hire a great service like Swig (www.swigevents.com) and have them pass out hors d'oeuvres, OR have your guests grab their food at the food truck window -- make sure that you have a few options if you have a lot of guests. Long lines can be a pain.
Affordable since they have a lower overhead. Most food trucks will charge much less because they are not supplying linens and other set up material. Make sure to work closely with the food truck to make sure you aren’t missing anything. Generally though, your costs are lower than a caterer.
Clean up is a breeze! In my experiences, clean up was fast and easy! Most use disposable plates and silverware, which obviously aren’t the most environmentally friendly, but you can literally be done in 15 minutes or less!
Finding your food truck is FUN! There are so many festivals now dedicated to food trucks! My favorite is the bi-annual StrEAT Food Festival in Manayunk! Check out Manayunk.com for more information! (www.manayunk.com)
