We've all heard it -- "Sweatin' for the Wedding", "Bridal Bootcamp", "Slimmin' down for the Gown", and my personal favorite "Gotta squat before I tie the knot"!
The motivation of having your wedding day coming up is a great way to really get yourself into gear! There is a bit of a stigma with the insinuation that the bride has to step it up to get in shape for her big day, when really we know that both partners could probably use a little push in the right direction.
I reached out to a few local gyms that I go to here in Manayunk. For those of you not familiar with this charming section of Philadelphia, Manayunk used to be the night life spot -- but with more and more gyms, health food stores, and fitness apparel spots thriving, we are a fitness mecca! Can’t forget the Destination Schuylkill River project which links miles and miles of hiking, walking and cycling trails right to Manayunk!
I had a little Q&A with Anthony & Eric from RowZone Manayunk & Rittenhouse, here’s what they said.
1. Do you offer a pre-wedding specific program?
We have memberships that if you pay more up front you will receive time free leading up to your big day.
2. What would you say the guesstimate percentage of your business comes brides and grooms looking to get fit before their wedding?
Right now I would say we have roughly 6-8 couples that are getting married that are currently coming to our studio getting in shape for the big day. Additionally there are 6 soon to be brides that come as well.
3. Do you see couples coming together or is it mostly just individuals?
We see all scenarios, best part about our studio is we offer a variety of different classes that are able to attract both men and women to help them hit their pre wedding goals.
4. What is your favorite thing about training people who are preparing for their wedding?
Always very motivated and looking to go that extra distance during classes!
5. What goals do brides/grooms usually set?
They want to look their best for the big day, so it could be a weight loss goal or to have more muscle tone that day.
6. Any advice for the recently engaged?
Don’t wait until the last minute to try and hit your fitness goals, this process usually takes some time with the busy schedules leading up to the day for many people. Also working out helps all that wedding planning stress!!!
7. What is YOUR personal favorite workout/class that you offer, or another Manayunk studio offers?
We love the boot camp classes. This class allows you to push for that extra burn and challenge each day.
While most people think of the wedding day as the final goal, I really implore you to look at the fitness journey before your wedding as a chance to start a new chapter in your life. You are marrying the love of your life and starting that part of your life in the healthiest way possible (hopefully!).
I would like to thank the crew (pun intended) over at RowZone for taking the time to answer my questions and hopefully provide my readers with some useful information. And for always giving me a great workout - I’ve been a member at RowZone for two years and LOVE every workout. Their trainers are amazing and fellow classmates are positive, fun and encouraging!
